Amendment to Gaming Machine Stakes & PrizesThe Categories of Gaming Machine (Amendment) Regulations 2014 came into force on the 15th of January 2014 following no comments or objections to the proposal from European Member States.

 

The 2014 regulations amended the definitions for certain categories of gaming machines in the 2007 Gaming Machine Regulations* so as to increase the maximum stake, prize or both, as follows:

 

Category B1 machines:

  • the maximum stake increased from £2 to £5; and
  • the maximum prize value increased from £4,000 to £10,000 or, where the prize value available through the use of that machine is or may be linked to use of another sub-Category B1 gaming machine situated on the same premises, £20,000.

 

Category B3A machines:

  • the maximum stake increased from £1 to £2.

 

Category B4 machines:

  • the maximum stake increased from £1 to £2; and
  • the maximum prize value increased from £250 to £400.

 

Category C machines:

  • the maximum prize value increased from £70 to £100.

 

Category D (combined money and non-money (coin pusher/penny falls)) machines:

  • the maximum stake increased from 10 pence to 20 pence; and
  • the maximum prize value increased from £15 (of which no more than £8 may be a money prize) to £20 (of which no more than £10 may be a money prize).
