The LGA has produced licence templates for the new scrap metal dealer’s licences. Both templates outline the basic statutory information that must be contained on the licence.
Some local authorities may choose to adopt the templates in their current form or may use them as a basis from which to develop their own.
There has been official confirmation from the Home Office that the commencement order for the new Act has been signed by the Minister. The order (SI 2013 No.1966 (C.83)) is expected to be published tomorrow.

The LGA has today produced a guide to implementing the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. It covers information relevant to dealing with applications for licences from October 2013, and sets out the timetable for the transition to the new regime introducec by the 2013 Act.
The Home Office, via the LGA, has today provided more information relating to the transitional arrangements for the implementation of the new Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013.
This week Licensing Resources reported that the transitional arrangements for the new Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 will permit currently registered scrap metal dealers to be issued with a temporary licence if they apply to their local authority before the 31st of August.

The Scrap Metal Dealers Bill received Royal Assent on the 28th of February 2013.
The Private Members' Bill had its third reading in the House of Lords on the 12th of February 2013. No amendments were made and it was confirmed yesterday that the Bill received Royal Assent to become an Act.
