No Draft Taxi Bill this yearThe Law Commission has confirmed that due to “administrative reasons” there will be a delay in publishing its draft Taxi Bill.

The Home Office has published supplementary guidance on the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013.

The supplementary guidance covers a range of frequently asked questions relating to the new Act including, supplementary guidance on Motor salvage operators, Skip Hire Companies, Tradespersons and Civic amenity sites.

The Home Office has today issued its statutory guidance for local authorities for determining suitability to hold a scrap metal dealer’s licence.

The Town Police Clauses Act does not specify the exact content of public registers in respect of licensed Hackney Carriage (“taxi”) proprietors.  It is however common practice for council’s to provide on the register the name of the taxi driver, the registration number of the vehicle and the plate number.

If a FOI is submitted asking also for addresses of licensed taxi drivers, do Council’s have to disclose this information? 

Further to our news flash yesterday in which we ran a news story on the surprise issue of new amended section 182 guidance by the Home Office, it has emerged that there is in fact no new guidance.


The website stated that the supposed new amended guidance “is the new version of the section 182 guidance issued on 31 October 2012” but of course there has been a June 2013 version.


Please note: The Home Office has incorrectly dated the new amended guidance.  It is erroneously dated October 2012 but is the new amended guidance.
